Inquiry into Construction Pressures in Townsville

Graham Perrett MP investigated construction pressures in Townsville for a proposed fit-out project, aiming to deliver 7,145 square meters of office space by 2027. The project has a set budget and is expected to start construction in September 2025, pending parliamentary approval. The project's goals were outlined by Stuart Brazendale, National Manager of Property and Corporate Support of Services Australia, who stressed the importance of effective project management and considering construction pressures in Townsville. Recent weather conditions, including significant damage, have been factored into the project's cost estimate. The project's construction will be managed by a head contractor, with a focus on local industry participation. The agency has also accounted for potential weather-related impacts in the contingency budget, allowing for flexibility in case of delays. Additionally, the agency will value engineer throughout the project to replace scarce resources with alternatives that meet net zero requirements, with a contingency budget of 18% based on regional risks, including flooding.
