Commencement of Public Hearing on Convention Between Australia and Portugal Republic

The joint standing committee on treaties has begun its public hearing into the Australia-Portugal double taxation agreement. The chair, Lisa Chesters MP, acknowledged the traditional landowners and paid respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The committee confirmed it would broadcast the hearing and publish transcripts. Witnesses from key departments, including Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Tax Office, and Treasury, were introduced. The chair also reminded the media to report the proceedings fairly and accurately.
